The lead night owl soared out of the treetops and into the open air. Ansuz followed.
"Hoo, hoo, hooooo!"
The lead night owl cried fiercely in the crisp night air, made a tight loop over Ansuz, then dropped swiftly toward the treetops. Ansuz followed as closely as possible.
Downward they flew, into the upper spires, until they blasted into the meadow at full speed, still very high in the air. The snowy night owl had a considerable lead. Ansuz poured on every ounce of speed possible, closing the distance between them. Then the night owl did something quite unexpected.
Tucking in her gossamer wings, she dove straight down like a missile.
Ansuz laughed and tried to follow. |
