Ansuz Stays Behind
Ansuz was in the best hiding spot of the night—a small hole at the base of a giant pine tree—when the Elder called out from a clearing:
"Yonder starlights, hear my call!
Gather round me one and all.
Tonight's wonders are all but done.
We must away before the sun!"
Ansuz's siblings promptly twinkled goodbye to their animal friends, then flew over to join the Elder in the clearing. Again the Elder called out to any lingering forest faeries. Ansuz remained hidden. "It can't be time to go yet!" Ansuz thought. "I want to stay!" Ansuz watched as one or two straggling forest faeries joined the gathering, which was already starting to get brighter for the return to the sky.
Still Ansuz hid. |
