During the Autumn of 2005, Chris and Erin Longmoon decided to create a story which they would give to their nieces and nephews for Christmas. The two braninstormed and came up with the concept of the forest faeries, and chose the name of Ansuz from a listing of star names that they found online. Once the story had been outlined, Chris wrote out each page and Erin edited. Starting with digital photographs he'd taken within the previous year or so, Chris began creating visual effects using magic and graphics software. Mostly magic.

When the story was complete, they published print copies for all their nieces and nephews and gave them out at Christmas in 2005.

A year later, as plans for a second installment in the Ansuz story were just beginning, Chris and Erin decided to put Ansuz Starlight on the Web for all to read.
